What is this aircraft?
The aircraft on display is a MiG-15 from the Czechoslovak Air Force. It is a legendary aircraft from the Korean War, it became famous during air combat against the American F-86 Sabers. It is therefore quite an old plane: it flew for the first time in 1947! As you can guess, the avionics are not recent ... However, due to its reliability and its low production cost, it was mass produced and it is ended up being the most manufactured jet aircraft in the world! It is a very iconic aircraft, the Soviet industry’s post war flagship.
History
This MiG-15 arrived in 1995. It was brought back from Czech Republic by a small group of students from the Institute. After its repatriation, a major renovation had to be performed, still by the students. The plane, however, struggled to shine as it should have since it has only been placed on its pedestal in 2020. It is now enthroned like the true aeronautical emblem that it is.
